nuts and coco...nuts

Have been playing with how lighting can influence the mood of a shot, using nuts. Well to be honest it was more a case of i was eating nuts and i wondered how to depict them in various moods.

So for starters, i wanted peaceful, and so shot pistachios with no added light, just indoors, no flash, using manual setting on f/6.3 to give it that sharp focal point and then romantic fuzz (or whatever the technical term is) to create the mood, plus white background to keep the colours peaceful.

Then to try the other extreme, i wanted to give impact. Well as much as impact can be created in nut world. So i used a lamp to create harsh light, placed a lone macadamia amongst a sea of pecans, and this is the result. I dont really like this shot, but then i think that is beacause i prefer harmony to harshness.

So then i wondered if it was possibly to meet in the middle and create something romantic using harsh light, and so i tried coconut with its delicate curves against the harshness of the white light. I used wood as the backdrop to soften it a little. Im not sure, now im just a little confused, i think i need to go back to the book.
